Corey & Gregory’s Stories of Hope
While sitting with 4 of my 5 grandsons around a beautiful campfire at dusk, the subject of cancer came up. In their young lives (14, 13, 11 and 10) they had intimately witnessed seeing their beloved uncle battle the frightening disease and lose his fight. They also had heard many stories of how I had fought breast cancer to became a survivor. Plus these enthusiastic boys had also participated in many of my fundraising and awareness campaigns (which always warms my heart because of their sincere sweetness!) It was at the campfire that Gregory and his brother, Corey, expressed their desire to tell me their personal Stories of Hope for my website. Here is what they wrote on yellow tablet paper that still holds the scent of that lovely campfire. — Tina DeSalvo
Corey’s Story of Hope
My Grandmother and Uncle Tommy both had cancer. I wasn’t born when my grandmother had it, but I heard that she (TC) carried a special wooden cross in her hand during her treatment. Now, if anything like that happens to me, I can get my own special cross and it could work for me!
TC survived and lived to tell the story!
So, cancer has affected my life because family members had been unalived by cancer.

Don’t be negative, because there’s still hope when you have cancer. And, I hope there will be a cure for all cancers soon.

Gregory’s Story of Hope
I’ve heard stories of the cancer that has been in my family, and it doesn’t sound pleasant. I can’t imagine how scary it would be when given a final diagnosis. But, it is hard to grasp on what an amazing person my grandma (TC) is.
A Breast Cancer Survivor and an author!
She seems to be one of those premium deals you could get at a theme park, except she’s for free. I know she did a great job of supporting Uncle Tommy (may he rest in peace) as he did for her whenever they were both fighting cancer.
So, while cancer has affected my family in ways I wish it didn’t, I know if it happens again, we’ll be there for each other.
